Hibiscus tiliaceus, also known as Sea Hibiscus, Mahoe, Cotton Tree, or Majagua, is an evergreen shrub or small spreading tree well-suited for UAE gardens and landscapes. It can reach 7–8 meters in height and spread almost equally wide, forming a lush, rounded canopy.

The tree’s foliage is highly ornamental, with alternate, heart-shaped leaves that are leathery, green above and whitish beneath. The leaves can grow up to 20 cm long, adding strong texture to landscapes.

Its flowers are the main attraction—large, funnel-shaped with five petals. They open bright yellow in the morning, then change to orange and deep red by evening, offering striking color variation in a single day. The prominent central column holds stamens and pistil, typical of hibiscus blooms.

The Sea Hibiscus thrives in coastal conditions, tolerating salty winds and sandy soils, making it an ideal choice for seafront gardens, parks, and avenues. It is also valued for shade, resilience, and ornamental beauty throughout the year.
